Kashmere Stage Band was a instrumental student band led by it's founder and teacher Conrad O. Johnson in Houston, Texas from the late 1960s to 1978. Today their music and records are cult, back in the days they were only sold locally and pressed between 500-1000 copys each (KSB released eight LP's). Musically it's a mixture of groovy big band (both pop and jazzz) and funk, all with a charming gentle, harmless and innocent vibe, they have been sampled a lot through the years by many different artists, maybe DJ Shadow is one of the most well known? Bumper To Bumper Soul was their nd effort, released in 1970. You can read a longer interview with Conrad o. Johnson here. Groovy!
